Keith Quattrocchi, MD, PhD

Dr. Keith Quattrocchi is a neurosurgeon who cares for adult patients. His expertise includes using computer-assisted neuronavigational techniques for spinal and intracranial surgery, surgically implanting stabilizing devices for degenerative or traumatic spine disorders, and treating brain and spinal cord tumors. He also has expertise on immunological changes that can occur following head injury and immunotherapy for malignant brain tumors.

Quattrocchi earned his medical degree at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He completed a residency in neurosurgery and a doctorate in immunology at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine.

While serving as the Van L. Weatherspoon Jr. Distinguished Professor in Neurosurgery at the University of North Carolina, Quattrocchi was the primary investigator for the first human study of an immunotherapy involving a tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte — a type of white blood cell — to treat malignant brain tumors. These and other findings were published in nationally recognized journals, including Neurosurgery and the Journal of Neuro-Oncology.

While living in Maine, Quattrocchi served as director of the Neuroscience and Spine Center at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center, where he was responsible for the integration of brain tumor oncology protocols, treatment of acute stroke and use of neuronavigational systems in treating spinal disease and adult brain tumors. Before joining UCSF, he worked in private practice for more than 15 years, treating adults with degenerative spinal disorders and malignant brain tumors.

Quattrocchi is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons and North American Spine Society. He is a clinical associate professor of neurosurgery at UCSF.
