Kurt van der Schalie, PT, DPT

Kurt van der Schalie is a board-certified physical therapist and orthopedic clinical specialist who treats patients with dizziness, vertigo, post-concussion syndrome and general orthopedic conditions. He is also the physical therapist supervisor at UCSF Physical Therapy Faculty Practice at Mount Zion and a certified athletic trainer.

Van der Schalie has advanced training treating patients with balance and inner-ear problems, including those stemming from concussion, vertigo and other disorders of the vestibular system. His professional interests include working to improve patient access to physical therapy and helping integrate physical therapy into clinical healthcare settings.

After receiving a master's degree in physical therapy at UCSF/San Francisco State University, van der Schalie completed a post-professional doctorate of physical therapy degree at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va. Van der Schalie spent nine years at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., where he served as the clinical manager for outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation services, before returning to UCSF.

Van der Schalie belongs to the American Physical Therapy Association.
