Lisa Mar, LCGC, MS

Genetic counselor

Lisa Mar is a genetic counselor who works with patients at risk for hereditary cancers and their families. While providing emotional support, she meets with the family to gather relevant medical information, assesses a patient's inherited cancer risks and discusses genetic testing options. After testing, she counsels families and helps them interpret the results and accompanying recommendations for cancer prevention and monitoring.

Mar earned bachelor's degrees in both integrative biology and sociology from the University of California, Berkeley. She then earned a master's degree in genetic counseling from California State University, Stanislaus. She previously worked in prenatal and cardiovascular genetics.

Mar is a member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors and American Board of Genetic Counseling.
