Lisa Ploss, MPH, RD


Lisa Ploss is a registered dietitian and board certified specialist in oncology nutrition. She has worked in many settings, and finds her most fulfilling role has been working with patients diagnosed with cancer.

Ploss' goal is to make nutrition information relevant, practical and tailored to each patient's particular diagnosis and life circumstances. She is delighted when patients make a nutrition change that improves their quality of life.

Before joining UCSF, Ploss served as a dietitian on the oncology and gastroenterology teams at Highland Hospital in Oakland. Prior to that, she worked as an oncology dietitian at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center's Comprehensive Cancer Center in Berkeley.

Ploss is also a certified diabetes educator and a fellow of the American Dietetic Association. She is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, California Dietetic Association, Oncology Nutrition Practice Group, American Association of Diabetes Educators, American Diabetes Association and the American Society on Aging.

Ploss received her M.P.H. in nutrition from the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. She has a bachelor's degree in foods and nutrition from San Diego State University as well as a bachelor's in home economics from Humboldt State University.
