Lung and Thoracic Cancer

UCSF Health's thoracic cancer programs provide state-of-the-art screening, diagnostic and treatment services for lung cancer and other types of chest cancer. Our team includes many types of specialists, such as thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists and pathologists, all with expertise in thoracic cancer. We work together closely to ensure the best, most comprehensive care for each patient.

We offer leading-edge treatments such as targeted therapies, which attack the cancer without damaging healthy cells, and immunotherapy, which harnesses the patient's own immune system to fight the cancer. For those who need surgery, our surgeons have extensive experience in minimally invasive and robot-assisted techniques. These procedures have many benefits for patients compared with traditional surgery, including a faster recovery, minimal scarring and less postsurgical pain.

As a national leader in cancer research, we are also dedicated to developing innovative new treatment strategies. Many of our patients have the option to participate in clinical trials.

To make it easier for patients to access advanced thoracic cancer care wherever they live, we have locations throughout the Bay Area.

We are part of the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.
