Mariann M. Ward is a nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialist in the Department of Neurological Surgery. She treats adult patients undergoing neurosurgery for seizure disorders and conditions involving spasmodic bursts of pain, including trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm and glossopharyngeal neuralgia.

Ward's research interests include surgical treatments for epilepsy and trigeminal neuralgia, a chronic pain condition that affects the fifth cranial nerve, which connects the face to the brain.

Ward earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of San Francisco, followed by a master's degree and adult nurse practitioner certification at the UCSF School of Nursing.

Ward has a commitment to patient advocacy and patient and nursing education, and has developed numerous patient teaching tools during her career at UCSF. She is a member of the Epilepsy Foundation of Northern California and an associate clinical professor of nursing at UCSF.
