Dr. Marta Margeta is a neuropathologist, a specialist in examining tissues from the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and skeletal muscles to help diagnose neurological diseases.

In her research, Margeta aims to improve the diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders. Her lab works to clarify how the response to cellular stress contributes to skeletal muscle health and disease.

At UCSF, she completed further research training in neuroscience, a residency in pathology and a fellowship in neuropathology.

Margeta is a member of the Society for Neuroscience, American Association of Neuropathologists, World Muscle Society, Group for Research in Pathology Education and Association of Pathology Chairs' section focusing on undergraduate medical education. At UCSF, she is a member of the Precision Medicine in Rheumatology Center and Core Center for Musculoskeletal Biology and Medicine.

Margeta is passionate about increasing the number of women in biomedical research, medicine and academia. Every year, she sponsors a Day With a Scientist Award for a local math and science conference, with the goal of exposing middle and high school girls to careers in science.
