'Healing Words' From Those Touched by Cancer

Writers whose lives have been touched by cancer and other illnesses will offer stories and poems during a special "Healing Words" event from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at UCSF's Laurel Heights campus, 3333 California St.

Featured authors include UCSF Family and Community Medicine professor Rachel Naomi Remen and former San Francisco poet laureate Janice Mirikitani.

Dr. Laura Esserman, director of the UCSF Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center, will introduce the program with an update on current cancer research. Performance artist Wanna Wright, a cancer survivor and advocate, will close the event.

Attendees may join a hands-on "Art for Recovery" demonstration and enjoy an art exhibit. Refreshments and live music also will be offered. Admission is free but donations will be accepted. For more information, please call (415) 885-7323.
