Speech-language pathologist

Nicole Fulton is a speech-language pathologist who specializes in evaluating and treating voice and swallowing disorders. Her interests include addressing and preventing voice disorders common to professional voice users, the voice needs of transgender people and voice issues connected to aging. She also provides speech and swallowing therapy for patients with head and neck cancer.

Fulton earned a bachelor of music degree from California State University, Northridge, with a focus on vocal performance in classical music and opera. She earned her master's degree in speech-language pathology at San Jose State University, where she received a grant from Project Tapestry, a program that trains speech-language professionals on caring for people of different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. She also completed a clinical fellowship in speech-language pathology at Oregon Health & Science University's NW Clinic for Voice and Swallowing.

In addition to teaching private voice lessons, Fulton has performed both choral and solo works regionally and internationally. She joined UCSF in 2017.

Fulton belongs to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, along with its special interest groups on voice disorders and swallowing disorders. She is also a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. She is certified in the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment technique, an intensive program to improve vocal function for patients with Parkinson's disease and other neurologic conditions.
