Dr. Carlos Corvera is chief of the Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Surgery Program at UCSF Medical Center and a cancer surgeon at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. His expertise includes the diagnosis and treatment of malignant as well as benign diseases of the liver, bile ducts, gallbladder and pancreas. He specializes in complex conventional surgical procedures yet has also developed innovations in laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgical techniques for the liver and pancreas.

In his research, Corvera focuses on the mechanisms that underlie inflammation, thickening and scarring in the biliary tract.

Corvera graduated from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. He completed a residency in general surgery at UCSF. At Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, he completed a clinical fellowship in surgical oncology as well as a fellowship in hepatobiliary surgery.

    Following a failed surgery for cholangiocarcinoma, a rare cancer, Michael sought a second opinion at UCSF. Dr. Corvera's team successfully removed his tumor.

    He was impatient irritable rushed seemed annoyed with me and I merely am a patient who has just received info that I will need a major complex operation

    Knows a lot but not sure he knows how little we know about condition so we were pretty shocked with the info he gave us! Scary!

    Dr. Corvera was very detailed in answering my questions and concerns. Took extra time to show MRI and even noticed some details regarding kidneys and made appropriate suggestion for follow-up with specialist.

    We had a power issue at our location and the team worked very hard so we could complete the visit. It all turned out well in the end do to everyone including the team and us to get it done. We were very appreciative.

    Info on post surgery recovery could offer a bit more detail.
    Surgery demands aggressive perfection and innovation. Patients deserve an experienced and compassionate surgeon.
