Yoga devotee and DIY project enthusiast
Dr. Emily Mak is an optometrist who provides comprehensive eye care, including exams and treatment of ocular disease. Her diverse experience includes caring for patients with cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and other ocular conditions.
Mak earned her doctor of optometry degree at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry, graduating with honors. She completed a residency in primary eye care at the Veterans Affairs Central California Health Care System. During her residency, she received advanced training in comprehensive eye care – including ocular disease diagnosis and therapy, specialty contact lens fitting and eye exams for patients with low vision – in addition to teaching fourth-year optometry students.
Prior to joining UCSF, Mak worked in both private practice and corporate settings. A San Francisco native, she likes to spend her free time taking on do-it-yourself projects, practicing yoga and exploring the Bay Area.
