Associate Director of Clinical Obstetrical Anesthesia

Dr. Jennifer Lucero is an anesthesiologist who provides anesthesia care for pregnant women, specializing in those with complex maternal diseases. She has treated patients undergoing fetal surgeries as both an obstetrician and an anesthesiologist.

Lucero's research focuses on improving care for pregnant patients with serious conditions such as placenta accreta and preeclampsia. She also studies the use of nitroglycerin in cesarean delivery.

Lucero received her medical degree from the Yale School of Medicine. She completed residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at UCSF, then practiced obstetrics and gynecology elsewhere for two years before returning to UCSF to complete a residency in anesthesia. After her anesthesia training, she completed an obstetric anesthesia fellowship and a National Institutes of Health research fellowship at UCSF.

Lucero is a member of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology. She is the director of diversity and inclusion for the UCSF Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care, and she mentors undergraduate students of color to encourage them to pursue careers in health care.
