About me

Dr. Matthew Russell is an otolaryngology hospitalist, specializing in the care of hospitalized patients who require head and neck surgery. When named an otolaryngology hospitalist at UCSF in 2011, he was one of the first head and neck surgeons in the country to serve in this role. In addition to coordinating the surgical needs of hospitalized patients with head and neck disorders, he provides inpatient consultations and assists other specialists with head and neck problems, such as complex airway issues.

Russell is also involved in UCSF initiatives on quality improvement, patient safety and systems-based practices.

Russell earned his medical degree at Boston University. He completed a five-year surgical residency in otolaryngology – head and neck surgery at UCSF.
