Dr. Piali Basu is a family medicine doctor who provides comprehensive care to patients of all ages. She specializes in reproductive health, including family planning, contraception, pregnancy options counseling and gynecologic procedures. In her practice, she emphasizes preventive health measures and chronic disease management, and she believes in engaging patients to be active participants in their health outcomes.
Basu earned a master of public health degree from Columbia University, where she focused on the social determinants of health. She earned her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed a residency in family medicine at Harbor–UCLA Medical Center, a program that allowed her to care for patients with the highest psychosocial needs in one of Los Angeles County's largest hospital. She completed additional training under the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Harbor–UCLA, where she gained skills in women's health and gynecologic procedures. She has also provided prenatal medical care in the LA County women's jail.
Basu is passionate about understanding how trauma and violence may impact her patients. She believes community-wide interventions and patient collaboration are needed to disrupt cycles of violence.
In providing health care, Basu focuses on the intersection of medicine, public health issues and patient advocacy. She views health care as a fundamental human right. Recently, she was selected to participate in an advocacy fellowship, representing Physicians for Reproductive Health.
