About me

Dr. Rajni K. Rao is a cardiologist with a special interest in noninvasive cardiology, particularly for heart failure and valvular heart disease. Her clinical interests include using transthoracic, stress, transesophageal and three-dimensional echocardiography to diagnose and manage valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathies and pericardial disease.

Rao participates in the UCSF core echocardiography laboratory for interpretation of echocardiograms, evaluating new therapies for treating heart failure and valvular heart disease.

Rao is an active participant in medical education, serving as course co-director on the cardiovascular curriculum for first-year medical students. She is also the faculty liaison for cardiovascular clerkships in the UCSF School of Medicine.

Rao earned her medical degree from UCSF. She completed her internship at Massachusetts General Hospital and returned to UCSF for a residency in internal medicine and fellowship in cardiology. She served as chief cardiology fellow and completed advanced training in echocardiography at UCSF.

Rao has received numerous awards, including two that recognized her as a distinguished educator.
