Taha A. Jan

Otologist, neurotologist and skull base surgeon

Dr. Taha A. Jan is an otologist (ear specialist), neurotologist (specialist in neurological ear disorders) and skull base surgeon who cares for both adults and children with disorders of the outer, middle and inner ear, and patients with benign or malignant temporal bone tumors (cancers that often start in the skin of the ear area and move into bone). He treats a range of conditions, including hearing loss, cholesteatoma (abnormal skin growth in the middle ear), otosclerosis (a disease that causes the stapes bone in the middle ear – which helps conduct sound – to become fixed, resulting in hearing loss), superior canal dehiscence syndrome (incomplete closure of an inner ear canal), vestibular schwannoma (also known as acoustic neuroma, a benign tumor on the major nerve going from the inner ear to the brain) and rare tumors of the temporal bone.

In research, Jan studies developmental and regenerative biology of the inner ear, with the goal of developing new surgical and nonsurgical therapies for hearing and balance disorders.

Jan earned his medical degree at Stanford University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in otolaryngology – head and neck surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear (a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School), followed by a fellowship in otology, neurotology and skull base surgery at Stanford Medicine.
