Iulia Ivan


Pain management specialist

Iulia Ivan is a psychologist who works with patients individually and in groups to help them manage chronic disease and pain. Her methods are rooted in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy, a form of CBT that helps people accept difficult emotions and ultimately learn more flexible ways of dealing with challenges. Her work is centered in the here and now, focused on the mind-body connection and dedicated to helping patients develop new skills. In addition to pain management, her areas of specialty include sleep disorders, obesity, blood diseases, hepatitis C and other liver diseases, and organ transplant.

Ivan earned a bachelor's degree in applied psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She earned a master of science degree and a doctorate in clinical psychology at Palo Alto University, followed by an internship in behavioral medicine at the Palo Alto Veterans Affairs Health Care System. She also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in psychology at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Health Care System.

In her free time, Ivan enjoys reading, running, hot yoga, hiking, live music and cooking.
