About me

Simone K. Madan is a psychologist who specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy. She cares for adults with mood and anxiety disorders, including health anxiety (obsessive worry about being or becoming ill). She also provides consultations for primary care patients who need to make behavioral health changes to manage chronic illnesses. She has particular interests in helping patients manage obesity, insomnia and body-focused repetitive behaviors (intense urges to perform such acts as pulling out hair or picking at skin). In the UCSF Weight Management Program, she provides individual, family and group consultations, and performs psychological assessments for patients considering gastric bypass surgery.

Madan strives to take a collaborative and personalized approach to treatment. She believes that interventions work best when designed in partnership with patients and tailored to their unique circumstances.

Madan is passionate about sharing her knowledge of effective treatments with the general public and other health professionals. Emphasizing the integration of behavioral health care into general health care, she trains and provides case consultations to medical students; nurses; and residents in medicine, pharmacy and psychiatry.
