Medical Services

At UCSF Children's Hospital, we tailor our medical care to the developing minds and bodies of children and offer programs especially designed for young patients and their families. The care we provide is family-centered, meaning our health professionals work to provide care that revolves around your family. We have 150 pediatric experts in 40 specialties ranging from bone marrow transplantation to neurology to urology. Our achievements include:

Our 180-bed hospital — one of the nation's leading children's hospitals, according to U.S. News & World Report — provides services customized for young patients, such as:

  • Child Life to help children and their families adjust to hospitalization and make their stay as positive as possible
  • Compass Care, comprehensive palliative care for children with chronic life-threatening conditions as well as those who need end-of-life care
  • Social workers, who are trained in the needs of children and their families

Pediatric clinics are located at our Parnassus, Mount Zion and Lakeshore campuses and more than 60 outreach clinics, stretching from San Luis Obispo to the Oregon border to provide high-level care to children who otherwise might not have access to our services.

For pregnant women, we offer services through our Center for Mothers and Newborns. If complications arise during pregnancy or delivery, we're ready with experts in high-risk pregnancy and a nationally renowned 51-bed neonatal intensive care nursery. We also provide transport for moms and babies, including the most delicate premature babies and infants requiring immediate surgery.
