About me
Dr. Van Halbach is a leader in neurointerventional radiology, which uses minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat disorders of the brain and spine. He specializes in treating hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke, dural fistulas (abnormal blood vessel connections in the membrane covering the brain and spinal cord) and cerebrovascular malformations (abnormal blood vessels in the brain).
Halbach earned his medical degree at the University of California, Los Angeles. He completed his residency and a fellowship at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
Halbach has served as president of the American Society of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (now the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery), and has held numerous other positions in national and international societies. He has coauthored more than 200 peer-reviewed articles. The UCSF Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging honored him with its outstanding teaching award in 1999.
