Insurance authorizations

Your insurance company must preapprove services. This process involves LPPH administrators who specialize in working with insurance companies on authorization (the process by which an insurance company approves medical services before they are provided to the patient). At times, our doctors need to consult with insurance company doctors to obtain continued authorization.

Initial authorization happens on your first day. Insurance companies typically authorize a few days at a time, depending on your progress in the program. Because authorization is an ongoing, time-intensive process, please keep in mind:

  • Notices you receive regarding days authorized and responses you get from calling your insurance company typically do not provide the most up-to-date information or reflect authorizations in process.
  • Sometimes we will be unable to obtain additional authorization even when we believe continuing care is appropriate. In that situation, you have the option to pay out of pocket for additional days or work with us to bring your participation to a close.

Please be patient and trust that our experienced staff is doing their best to ensure that your insurance carrier authorizes an appropriate length of treatment.
