Our allergy and immunology services
At UCSF Health, our allergy specialists and immunologists have advanced training and expertise. We help you manage allergic and immunologic conditions.
Allergy testing and care
We treat a range of allergic conditions, including anaphylaxis, asthma, food allergies and eczema. To identify allergens, our specialists offer allergy testing for:
-
Medications, such as antibiotics, aspirin, general anesthesia, ibuprofen and corticosteroids
-
Environmental allergens, such as pollens, molds, dust mites, cockroaches and animal dander
-
Foods
We do not recommend or offer IgG food sensitivity testing. This is in line with guidance from professional organizations such as the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology.
If you have an allergy, we offer drug desensitization, allergen immunotherapy ("allergy shots") and biologic injections for asthma and hives.
Immune deficiency care
We care for people with primary immune deficiencies. These conditions, caused by genetic mutations, prevent your immune system from working as it should.
Secondary immune deficiency is caused by external factors, such as immune-suppressing medications (immunosuppressants), HIV or severe burns.
If you have immune deficiencies, you may experience frequent infections and inflammation. Our experienced immunologists help you stay well and feel your best.
Other health conditions can also cause frequent infections and inflammation. We require screening tests to determine if seeing an immunologist is the right choice for you or if another specialist may be more appropriate.

Abatacept for the Treatment of Common Variable Immunodeficiency With Interstitial Lung DiseaseOpens in a new window
There is no standard of care therapy for patients with granulomatous-lymphocytic interstitial lung disease (GLILD) seen in common variable immunodeficiency (CVID). Abatacept has recently looked promising for the treatment of patients with complex CVID. This study is a multi-site, phase II, randomized, blinded/placebo-controlled clinical trial in pediatric and adult subjects to determine the efficacy of abatacept compared to placebo for treatment of subjects with GLILD in the context of CVID.
