Julie Schallhorn, MS, MD

Dr. Julie Schallhorn is an ophthalmologist who treats diseases of the cornea and cataracts. She performs corneal transplants, cataract surgery and refractive surgery, such as LASIK and PRK. She sees both pediatric and adult patients.

Schallhorn's research focuses on cornea and refractive surgery. She has special interests in refractive surgery outcomes and in the role of corneal imaging in screening refractive surgery patients.

After earning a master's degree in bioengineering at the University of California, San Diego, Schallhorn completed her medical degree at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. She then completed a residency in ophthalmology at UCSF, followed by a fellowship in uveitis at UCSF's Francis I. Proctor Foundation. She also completed a fellowship in cornea, external disease and refractive surgery at the Casey Eye Institute at Oregon Health and Science University.

Schallhorn belongs to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, International Society of Refractive Surgery, American Uveitis Society and Cornea Society.

Schallhorn is an assistant professor of clinical ophthalmology at UCSF. As associate director of the residency program in ophthalmology, she organizes classroom and research curricula for residents.
