Echocardiography tests we provide

We offer a full array of echocardiography or heart ultrasound procedures, including:

• 2D echocardiography. We may perform this through the chest wall or through the esophagus using an endoscope. These procedures can produce clearer images because the sound waves do not need to pass through skin, bone and other tissues.
• Stress echocardiography. We do this ultrasound before and after you exercise.
• Color flow Doppler. This test can reveal problems with blood flow.

We often use these methods with other advanced cardiac tests, such as:

• Nuclear imaging. This noninvasive technique uses a small, safe amount of radioactive material to produce a picture of your heart.
• CT scan. A CT scan combines many X-rays to create a detailed image of your heart.

Preparing for your appointment

Part of the stress test involves walking on a treadmill to monitor your heart's functioning. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing and shoes you can exercise in.
