My condition has improved significantly under the care of Dr. Sawyer. She has also empowered me with skills I need to continue my health journey. I have benefited by her expertise, compassionate care and empathy. As a result, I feel very hopeful about the condition of my health going forward. Dr. Sawyer is truly "the great physician treats the patient who has the illness!"! My grateful thanks to her!

The appointment (as well as the preceding one) was hurried, with little time designated to answering questions. The doctor covered a lot of information regarding supplements she asked me to take and consumption of cowmilk. It would have been good to have these instructions added to my chart, or to have had someone respond to my messages. I spent six months between appointments unclear about the supplements I should be taking.

She brushed me off when I asked about HRT and its effect on osteoporosis: "talk to you OBGYN, I don't do that." While I did take notes, she didn't provide a follow-up to my visit in MyChart, which means my primary care physician is not being apprised of her diagnosis, prognosis, nor treatment recommendations. She said we would try behavioral treatment first and then meet again after I have had labs done to consider whether I need meds. She has yet to put in a lab order and though she recommended physical therapy no referral. With no note in MyChart, I have no way to even show what I should be doing in the lab. I followed up with her assistant, but still have heard nothing.

This was my final consultation with Doctor Sawyer after working with her for several years on my osteoporosis diagnosis.. She has been helpful but at times hard to reach and also at times unresponsive to requests for physical therapy referrals. Overall I have mixed feelings about the care I received.l- perhaps she is too busy - but she is very knowledgeable and wants to help.

This has been a singularly useful specialty evaluation and treatment experience. Combining Physical Therapy, pharmacological and non- pharm interventions to treat osteoporosis. I'm grateful.

Doctor did not seem to fully remember that this was a follow up

Dr. Sawyer is an exceptionally empathetic and caring provider. She discussed treatment options for my condition while giving me the latitude to make an Informed decision. Her thoroughness In analyzing my health far exceeded what I'd experienced elsewhere. Her encouragement has motivated me to do all I can to follow her Instructions for my care plan. I always look forward to my appointment with Dr. Sawyer and each time I come away with Immense gratitude for having the good fortune to be the patient of such an extraordinary doctor. Heartfelt thanks, Dr. Sawyer!

I never received an After Visit Summary. I also still haven't received the follow-up lab orders but was told it could take up to two weeks.

An appointment with a retina specialist was quickly arranged

Horrible bedside manner. Seemed annoyed when I couldn't quickly answer questions about my medical history (that were in my chart and that we discussed at my last visit). Very rushed and dismissive.

I don't recommend unless asked and nobody does

Some minor issues with referrals, probably because of interface between UCSF and SGH
    Sep 26, 2023
Re instructions, Dr. Sawyer said she would prepare a written report with instructions and a referral to UCSF Physical Therapy. I have not received them yet, so it is difficult to comment re instructions.

She did not prescribe any medicine for my conditionI am confused she said your primary should give you med and my primary wanted me to see her for med I feel like I am just paying for visits in general in UCSF

Condescending, didn't listen to me and just lectured, pushed me on options that I have a severe allergy to. Very poor experience . Hard to believe she's the director. She belongs in research, not patient care.

Dr Sawyer is outstanding in every way! I understand the current non-pharmacological program and future tests. If my osteopenia is the same through the next DXA, she said she will hand things over to my PCP who will oversee my care, since her work with me is as a "consultant". If I develop osteoporosis, she would recommend a medication for possibly 4 or at most 5 years.

Explanations given very fast and there was no After Office Notes for me to refer to. Doctor overwhelmed by volume of work and seemed to provide treatments that did not take Into account my personal health situation which Is all documented In my UCSF file over the last 40 years.
    Jun 12, 2023
Follow-through in working with UCSF and this doctor has been unsatisfactory. In the past, I've asked repeatedly for the blood tests and bone density tests the doctor recommended. The orders were never written. This recent visit was a week ago. Again, I see no orders. Also, there Is no visit summary or notes that help keep me informed about my health. It's very frustrating.
