About me

Alan Chin is a pharmacist who cares for patients with solid tumors. He works with them to manage their cancer medications, with a particular focus on treating non-small cell lung cancer and small cell lung cancer. As part of the oncology team, he reviews pharmacy orders for accuracy and recommends adjustments or alternatives when a patient's condition changes.

Through his involvement with the Beacon Committee at UCSF and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network's Chemotherapy Order Templates Committee, Chin helps devise, implement and standardize new treatment plans as therapies become available, and helps revise existing treatment plans as new data are released. He is committed to training the next generation of oncology pharmacists, and is a teacher and preceptor for pharmacy residents in the outpatient oncology clinics. He is passionate about leveraging technology to improve workflow and patient care across UCSF.

Chin earned his doctor of pharmacy degree at the University of California, San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He completed residencies in general pharmacy and oncology pharmacy at the University of Washington. He has advanced training and certification in chemotherapy for patients with cancer.
