About me

Dr. Alexander Gottschalk, an expert in radiation treatment, specializes in caring for patients with lung cancer, prostate cancer and sarcoma. He directs UCSF's program in CyberKnife surgery, in which a flexible robotic arm is used to precisely deliver high doses of radiation. He uses CyberKnife and other forms of stereotactic body radiation therapy to treat cancers of the lung or prostate, as well as cancer that has spread to the bones or lymph nodes.

Gottschalk earned both his medical degree and doctorate in pathology at the University of Chicago. He completed a residency in radiation oncology at UCSF.

Gottschalk has received numerous awards and research grants, including a research service award and a medical scientist fellowship from the National Institutes of Health, a clinical research grant from the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, a scholar award from the Radiological Society of North America and a junior faculty award from the American Society for Radiation Oncology.
