Dr. Anna Haemel is a dermatologist who treats patients with all types of skin disease. Her expertise includes care for patients who have internal organ involvement and underlying systemic disease, such as rheumatologic conditions and inflammatory bowel disease.

Haemel earned her medical degree at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She completed a residency in internal medicine and dermatology at the University of Wisconsin.

Haemel is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American College of Physicians, Medical Dermatology Society and Dermatology Foundation.

    This was my first visit to Dr. Haemel and it was one of the best experiences I have ever had with any health care provider. She is amazing -- focused, respectful, clear, friendly, and sharply attuned to the efficiency and thoroughness of the exam and treatment, all while closely monitoring my comfort, dignity and understanding. I would rate her a ten if it was available.

    Dr. Haemel is such an excellent doctor; she is informed, prepared, proactive & thorough. She was the first doctor to diagnose my skin cancer and helped me take the necessary steps to remove the cancer. She Identified another area of skin cancer that needed to be removed so I am so comforted to be under her care for my biannual check-upsI feel very fortunate to be her patient and am very thankful to her and her team : )

    Dr. Haemel is one of my favorite doctors. She's amazing. For 3 generations all of the women in my family lost their hair. Not one was diagnosed correctly. I was seeing Dr. Haemel for something totally unrelated when she saw my thin hairline and asked me what was going on. She soon diagnosed me with alopecia. Something no other doctor had ever noticed or said. Three generations of African American women went undiagnosed until Dr. Haemel. I feel blessed to be treated by her. Just wish others in that office were as culturally competent and caring as her.

    She was running late and rushed a little, but she listened to the history I gave her and got it right in her note in a very short amount of time, an exceptional experience compared to other doctors. She is also clearly current on the literature. I was impressed. That said, I think that first appointments need to be longer to cut down on the chance of mistakes.

    Provider rushed and preoccupied. Seems to want to be rid of me to get to next patient she is late for. Waited over one hour to be seen. More interested in teaching medical student than being present for my experiences and concerns. Always late by several weeks providing case notes that may help me understand my current condition. Too busy to answer my questions. Doesn't take the time to analyze and explore my unique symptoms and situation. Unprepared for my diagnosis. Doesn't have a good grasp of case history. Leads to patient having little confidence/hope of getting better or finding a reasonable tolerable treatment plan.

    While the care provider is excellent, the wait time is not worth it. Also, we did not discuss specifics about my condition, side effects of a new prescription, or any time for any questions.

    I think Dr. Haemal is an excellent dermatologist and a good physician. I feel very comfortable with her and clearly I value her care because I travel over 20 miles one way in order to see her and I wait for months to schedule my appointments. She is appropriately personable and caring.

    After being seen super late, my appt was super rushed once she got the skin scraping and said what it was and what we needed to do. I didn't get a chance to ask any questions or many words in. She talked super fast and when I was ready to move on to my next concern, she said, only if it was really quick.

    Dr Haemel really cares about me as a person, and is extremely thorough in answering my questions and reviewing my treatment. Sometimes she talks/moves query quickly and I'm not sure whether I was able to capture everything. Overall, I am very devoted to Dr Haemel as my provider, and I wish it were easier to schedule/coordinate with her clinic and that her clinic ran on time.

    One of the reasons that I go to UCSF Dermatology is because the faculty stays up on current research on a variety of things that were affecting my care and were able to quickly articulate any side effects of any of the medication's. I was currently taking. You can't get that in a community hospital. Or clinic

    Dr Haemel is fantastic. She is the one who figured out that I have Myositis. She always takes the extra time to find out everything that's going on with not only my myositis but with the rest of my body and how I'm feeling mentally.     Dr Hamel is an exceptional physician. She is extremely knowledgeable, very thorough and quite caring. The only downside is that it is very difficult to get an appointment due to the current shortage of dermatologists at UCSF.

    The doctor seemed well intentioned, but very limited as to what she could say, or do about providing treatment for me. She spent most of her time, looking at a screen, offering pharmaceutical options, and very little of her own thought seem to go into what was actually causing my issues. I felt like it was sitting with a Tele doctor who's only option was to offer temporary relief from various pharmaceuticals, without solution or explanation of my condition.

    I have found in my unfortunate experience in the healthcare system that the central provider can be extraordinarily good, but the people and staff that surround her are not.I just met some of her support staff and I'm hoping over time they will become more likable. But I have very little doubt that although my disease is very rare, she will have the tools needed to help me as best she can.

    She always provides the same care options does not provide new information and keeps proposing medicine I told her I have no interest in taking. When I go she doesn't even check my skin anymore.
