About me

Dr. Anthony Wiggins is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in joint replacement. He focuses on improving mobility, reducing pain and enhancing quality of life for patients with advanced hip and knee arthritis. He is involved in all aspects of patient care, from the initial consultation and surgical planning through postoperative recovery and long-term follow-up. He emphasizes clear communication, decision-making based on the latest research, and a personalized approach to treatment.

Wiggins' areas of specialty include robotic-assisted hip and knee replacement, which allows for enhanced surgical precision, improved implant positioning and consistent outcomes. He has a particular interest in approaches that support expedited recovery following joint replacement, including minimally invasive techniques, using multiple approaches to manage pain, and early mobilization after surgery. His objective is to help patients return to activity quickly, safely and durably.

In research, Wiggins focuses on improving outcomes and advancing precision in hip and knee arthroplasty (joint replacement). His work has examined disparities in joint replacement outcomes across demographic groups, the biomechanical impact of how implants are positioned, and how to analyze patient-reported outcomes following surgery. He has also investigated infection risks in joint replacement, particularly as they relate to the safety and efficacy of robotic-assisted techniques. His goal is to translate these insights into more personalized, effective and safe surgical care for all patients.

Wiggins earned his medical degree at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at UCSF, followed by a fellowship in adult reconstruction and joint replacement at the Hospital for Special Surgery. He earned his bachelor's degree in human evolutionary biology at Harvard University.
