About me
Dr. Anthony C. Wong is a radiation oncologist who cares for patients with genitourinary cancers (cancers of the reproductive and urinary systems), including prostate, bladder, kidney and testicular cancer. He specializes in high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy (a prostate cancer treatment in which radioactive pellets are temporarily placed near the tumor), stereotactic body radiation therapy (which uses precisely focused radiation beams) and trimodality therapy (an alternative to the long-standing bladder cancer treatment in which the bladder is removed).
Wong's research focuses on using new technologies, such as advanced imaging and genomic analysis, to improve radiation therapy for genitourinary cancers. In collaboration with the radiology department, he is using PSMA PET (an imaging technique for detecting prostate cancer) to map patterns of prostate cancer progression and relapse among patients who are newly diagnosed or have finished treatment. He is also investigating the use of HDR brachytherapy in technically challenging scenarios, including patients with a prior history of prostate surgery and patients who previously received pelvic radiation. The primary investigator for several UCSF clinical trials, he is studying the genetics of different forms of prostate cancer with the goal of developing new treatments. He is interested in expanding the use of highly focused radiation techniques beyond cancer, such as for treating cardiovascular conditions.
Wong earned both his medical degree and a doctorate in biomedical sciences at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed a residency in radiation oncology at the University of Chicago.

Outstanding apt. He had reviewed my case in advance, which not all Drs do. His analysis and explanation was clear, relevant, and helpful, in discussing complex options and tradeoffs. Very impressed.
