About me
Dr. Arthur E. D'Harlingue is a neonatologist, a specialist in the care of premature infants and newborns with serious conditions. He serves as director and chief of neonatology at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, where he provides care in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and fetal medicine clinic. He has particular interests in neonatal nutrition, respiratory disorders and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, a machine that supports heart and lung function in babies who are critically ill.
D'Harlingue has participated in research on care of newborns with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, a type of brain injury caused by lack of oxygen.
D'Harlingue earned his medical degree at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He completed residencies in pediatrics at the Kaiser Family Foundation and Stanford University, followed by a fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at Stanford University.
In 2019, the medical staff of UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland honored D'Harlingue with the Bronze Bambino Award for lifetime achievement.
In his free time, D'Harlingue enjoys playing with his grandchildren and going to the movies. He also loves running and hiking.
