Dr. Bobby K-B Tay is an orthopedic surgeon at the UCSF Spine Center, where specialists from many disciplines collaborate to provide optimal treatment of spinal conditions. These include spinal degenerative disorders, trauma, tumors and infections. Tay is particularly interested in caring for patients with degenerative diseases of the cervical and lumbar spine, as well as those with spinal tumors or fractures. He has significant expertise in minimally invasive surgical techniques for the spine.

After receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, Tay earned his medical degree at the UCSF School of Medicine. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at UCSF and then completed a fellowship in spinal surgery at the University of Miami Health System.

    My experience was very good overall, but the appointment felt a little rushed. At the end I had several other questions I would have liked to discussed in person but forgot them. It would have helped if they could have slowed down a little and asked if I had more questions. I likely would have remembered then.

    As I said in a previous comment, the doctor did not want to hear anything I had to say. He asked me to stop talking and only wanted to go off xrays MRI or notes but these things don't tell everything.

    Dr. Tay was EXCEPTIONAL. He was a true professional. Intelligent, kind, caring, and educated in his specialty. Dr. Tay answered all of my questions and I did not feel rushed during my visit. It was ESPECIALLY APPRECIATED that his MA was also in the room during my visit so that all of our conversation was notated and written down. In addition, copious notes were written so that my family members and I could look back to see Dr. Tay's analysis, recommendations, and next steps. This documentation was and is essential for me and I am extremely grateful. Thank you very much, Dr. Tay. You are wonderful. Although I am terrified of what the future may hold I am secure in your hands.

    Dr Tay could not have been more understanding and professional as well as helping me with a referral for further help. The kindness and care he provides is rarely seen in surgeons and physicians in todays world, so thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your care. Your surgery changed my life. I was in so much pain, I was unsure I would ever be able to walk properly again, and I am now walking like my old self. It sounds dramatic to those who have not had that kind of pain, but it is real when you are in it. Thank you doesn't even begin to say how much I appreciate Dr Tay.

    DR. Tay, is a superlative M.D., and I've known him for many years. I can safely state, that he is the finest Dr. I have ever known. As both a Pt. And A Retired FNP, He has helped me, and over time- approx. 64 pts that I referred to Dr. Tay...All of them had good outcomes, and better quality of life, secondary to his care.

    Dr. Tay was most knowledgeable about my 3 level stenosis ailment and his recommended course of treatment. He was one of the finest physicians I have ever spoken in the many medical contacts I have had in my many years. He was kind, understanding, patient, answered all of my questions and added much information that was pertinent to my treatment.

    Dr. Tay in the 2 times I have seen him is amazing. I initially saw 2 other doctors before I found him. He closely listened to my concerns and paid attention to where I am in life to come up with a care plan that was considerate, thoughtful and right! I felt like an individual person not just another one coming thru the door. I will definitely stay with him and recommend him.
