About me

Dr. Carlin Long is a cardiologist who specializes in preventing and treating cardiovascular disease.

In the clinic, Long is particularly interested in engaging patients in self-care through technology. He emphasizes apps and wearable devices that collect physiological data and help individuals integrate therapies and preventive measures into their daily routines.

In more than 25 years of research, Long has studied how cells in the heart communicate with one another during normal and abnormal growth. His research focuses particularly on cardiac fibroblasts, cells that play a role in initiating the scarring process within heart muscle after injury. He is also interested in how genome sequencing data can improve medicine.

Long earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He completed both a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiology at UCSF.
