About me

Dr. Christopher Barnett is a specialist in cardiology and critical care medicine. He cares for patients with severe, complex heart disease and other organ dysfunction that occurs as a result of or along with heart disease. He also sees patients with pulmonary hypertension and right heart failure. As part of ensuring that his patients receive the best possible care, he works collaboratively with providers in other specialties.

Barnett studies disease processes that occur in patients with complex heart disease in the intensive care unit, such as cardiogenic shock. His goal is to better organize care and management by teams of specialists in order to improve patient outcomes. He is also interested in new treatments for pulmonary hypertension and in medical education – specifically, training cardiologists in critical care medicine.

Barnett earned his medical degree at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, then completed a residency in internal medicine at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University. He completed a fellowship in critical care medicine at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center and a fellowship in cardiology at the University of California, San Diego.

I had so many questions that I was concerned I took to much of his time. I would be happy if the provider gave me an estimate for how long he/she had scheduled so I would be less inclined to bring up items that were less important.

Dr. Barnett spent considerable time with me and my husband. I'm so grateful to have such a kind and compassionate physician that also specializes in my disease of pulmonary hypertension. He has since reached out to me through MyChart numerous times along with his staff.
