I don't have enough words in my vocabulary to explain my gratitude for Dr. Ward. I came to him broken after a failed hip replacement done by someone else and I was lucky to know colleagues of my mother who were able to help me get into UCSF and to Dr. Ward. It took two attempts to rectify the problem hip, but Dr. Ward was there every step ; when I went to sleep, when I woke up, and first thing the next day after performing the many surgeries he a had done the day before. The attention to detail and bedside manner is something that is a very unique and extinct trait in medicine and was why my current decision to see him regarding my left hip was a no brainer no matter how much it was to cost me. Unfortunately, Dr. Ward has moved on to specialize in knees, however he made the time to see me when he was not obligated to and could have told me so. Instead, he was cordial and gave the time, the consultation, and like many times before, made me feel comfortable about his position, his opinion, and has passed on the matter to his colleagues who do hip replacements. I walked out feeling confident and 100% better than I did walking in. I would encourage UCSF to retain Dr. Ward at any cost as he is a wonderful physician, ambassador to UCSF, and a patient's Dr. Through and through
