About me
Dr. Derrick L. Tao is a medical oncologist who specializes in treating patients with melanoma and other advanced skin cancers. Having grown up in the Bay Area, he feels deeply honored to care for the community that shaped him.
Tao's research focuses on developing early-phase clinical trials to expand treatment options for patients with advanced cancers. He has a particular interest in bringing new adoptive cell therapies (taking immune cells from a patient, modifying them to better attack tumors, then returning them to the body) to the clinic.
Tao earned his medical degree from Oregon Health & Science University, where he also completed a residency in internal medicine. He completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, as well as a research fellowship in immuno-oncology at the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute, the research arm of the Providence Cancer Institute of Oregon.
Tao is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research and the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer.
