I feel I am in excellent hands. My provider is well informed and I feel I receive personalized care.

She brushed me off when I asked about HRT and its effect on osteoporosis: "talk to you OBGYN, I don't do that." While I did take notes, she didn't provide a follow-up to my visit in MyChart, which means my primary care physician is not being apprised of her diagnosis, prognosis, nor treatment recommendations. She said we would try behavioral treatment first and then meet again after I have had labs done to consider whether I need meds. She has yet to put in a lab order and though she recommended physical therapy no referral. With no note in MyChart, I have no way to even show what I should be doing in the lab. I followed up with her assistant, but still have heard nothing.

This was my final consultation with Doctor Sawyer after working with her for several years on my osteoporosis diagnosis.. She has been helpful but at times hard to reach and also at times unresponsive to requests for physical therapy referrals. Overall I have mixed feelings about the care I received.l- perhaps she is too busy - but she is very knowledgeable and wants to help.

This has been a singularly useful specialty evaluation and treatment experience. Combining Physical Therapy, pharmacological and non- pharm interventions to treat osteoporosis. I'm grateful.

Doctor did not seem to fully remember that this was a follow up

Dr. Sawyer is an exceptionally empathetic and caring provider. She discussed treatment options for my condition while giving me the latitude to make an Informed decision. Her thoroughness In analyzing my health far exceeded what I'd experienced elsewhere. Her encouragement has motivated me to do all I can to follow her Instructions for my care plan. I always look forward to my appointment with Dr. Sawyer and each time I come away with Immense gratitude for having the good fortune to be the patient of such an extraordinary doctor. Heartfelt thanks, Dr. Sawyer!

I never received an After Visit Summary. I also still haven't received the follow-up lab orders but was told it could take up to two weeks.

An appointment with a retina specialist was quickly arranged
    Oct 18, 2023
Horrible bedside manner. Seemed annoyed when I couldn't quickly answer questions about my medical history (that were in my chart and that we discussed at my last visit). Very rushed and dismissive.

I don't recommend unless asked and nobody does

Some minor issues with referrals, probably because of interface between UCSF and SGH
    Sep 26, 2023
Re instructions, Dr. Sawyer said she would prepare a written report with instructions and a referral to UCSF Physical Therapy. I have not received them yet, so it is difficult to comment re instructions.

She did not prescribe any medicine for my conditionI am confused she said your primary should give you med and my primary wanted me to see her for med I feel like I am just paying for visits in general in UCSF

Condescending, didn't listen to me and just lectured, pushed me on options that I have a severe allergy to. Very poor experience . Hard to believe she's the director. She belongs in research, not patient care.

Dr Sawyer is outstanding in every way! I understand the current non-pharmacological program and future tests. If my osteopenia is the same through the next DXA, she said she will hand things over to my PCP who will oversee my care, since her work with me is as a "consultant". If I develop osteoporosis, she would recommend a medication for possibly 4 or at most 5 years.

Explanations given very fast and there was no After Office Notes for me to refer to. Doctor overwhelmed by volume of work and seemed to provide treatments that did not take Into account my personal health situation which Is all documented In my UCSF file over the last 40 years.
    Jun 12, 2023
Follow-through in working with UCSF and this doctor has been unsatisfactory. In the past, I've asked repeatedly for the blood tests and bone density tests the doctor recommended. The orders were never written. This recent visit was a week ago. Again, I see no orders. Also, there Is no visit summary or notes that help keep me informed about my health. It's very frustrating.

Detailed consult with organized review of data and recommendations

    Dr Sawyer is so knowledgeable
    May 09, 2023
Needed more time to discuss what to do until next visit. Discuss prevention concerns not addressed.. No notes in my chart yet. Seems next appt. A very long time.
    May 09, 2023
Patronizing. She interupts if she isn't interested in your response. 2 appts - 2nd worse than first. Rigid in her approach.

Appointments postponed too often and for too long.

    Very knowledgeable, prepared, informative provider.

    Seemed overwhelmed at times.

I went to my last appointment with the sole purpose of evaluating my overall progress on the condition that Dr. Sawyer was treating. She changed gears upon learning that I had an unrelated injury. After examining the affected site, she requested x-rays to ensure there were no broken bones before letting me leave. She also arranged for a cane to assist me in getting home. Despite her busy schedule, Dr. Sawyer generously gave up so much of her valuable time to address both the additional issue and the condition for which I was originally scheduled. She really went the extra mile! During the course of this extended appointment, her professionalism, empathy, compassion, and concern for my well-being and safety came across resoundingly. I am grateful beyond words to have received such patient-centered care par excellence.I went to my last appointment with the sole purpose of evaluating my overall progress on the condition that Dr. Sawyer was treating. Dr. Sawyer seemed annoyed when I couldn't answer questions about medical history (when previous fractures happened, when I was on past medications, etc.). Seems like it would have been helpful if I had been asked to fill out a questionnaire about this prior to our appointment, since it seemed like this is important info in terms of determining next steps. She had a gruff manner at times, and I didn't get the sense that she would be a doctor who would welcome questions. I will likely look for a different doctor in the future.

I was told there would be orders for labs and physical therapy but none have showed up in UCSF MYCHART Ir maybe I don't know where to look!
    Jan 23, 2023
I was referred to get an x-ray but the order was not in the computer when I arrived in the radiology department three days later. Unfortunately, it took more than two hours for me to reach a friend who could order the film for me, since I couldn't get through to anyone in the orthopedics department, or the oncology clinic directly. I'm lucky that I have friends in high places and was willing to ask another orthopedic surgeon to order the test for me. Had that not happened, I would've had to leave and go back another time. It was frustrating.
    Jan 23, 2023
Dr. Sawyer was great - but the follow-up has been very confusing. Dr. Sawyer said she was giving me several referrals - but there is nothing on MyChart, nor are there any appointments notes or visit summary.
    Jan 09, 2023
Yes for the care provider but the rest of the department is unprofessional and unresponsive so for that reason, I would have a hard time recommending UCSF skeletal health.

Excellent care provider and terrific guidance and advice!

The doctor has expertise, is professional and personable. But I have the sense that the doctor doesn't remember me from previous visits.
    Nov 21, 2022
Dr. Sawyer listened well and was easy to talk with. She communicated my treatment options and follow-up care instructions clearly. I certainly appreciate her holistic approach as well as her courteous manner and empathy for my condition. I am so very thankful to receive care from such a top-notch physician.

He explanations were clear and precise. She is also a good listener. Her students are lucky to have such a professor. I feel lucky to have her now as my doctor for foot issues.
