Dr. Jose G. Gurrola II is an otolaryngologist who specializes in rhinology, or conditions of the nose and sinuses, as well as frontal skull base surgery.

Gurrola's research interests include the causes and treatments of chronic sinusitis. He is also interested in approaches to and outcomes in skull base surgery.

Gurrola received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in otolaryngology at University of Iowa Health Care, followed by a fellowship in rhinology and skull base surgery at Georgia Regents University, now Augusta University.

Before coming to UCSF, Gurrola was an assistant professor of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery at the University of Virginia.

Gurrola is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, American Rhinologic Society and North American Skull Base Society. He also serves on committees for these associations.

Dr Gurrola was amazing. He even offered to present my case in his ENT board meeting, as it is complex and I had some disagreements. But he is very humble and kind and I appreciate him going above and beyond to help me

Dr. Gurrola was very caring and took his time to explain my condition and offered treatment options, explaining the side effects. He performed a detailed exam and listened to my questions. Excellent bed side manners!

Dr. Gurrola is the very best. I appreciate everything he's done for me. He's always listened to my thoughts and concerns and explained the pros and cons about my procedure. He gave me a clear and consice treatment plan that's best for me. I appreciate his courteousness and being pleasant to me. I have anxiety and he really is a personable doctor. I wish they are were a nice and easy to talk to as Dr. GURROLA.

Basically, a waste of time. He did confirm he thought it was my Trigeminal nerve that caused my problem.

I want to be clear and tell you that this doctor is wonderful, kind and empathic. The only Negative thing to say is that it was not clear to me the amount of follow up visits I would have and the amount of procedures I would have after my brain surgery. Perhaps, that's on a case by case basis but an explanation of what may be expected would have made me more mentally prepared.

Dr. Gurrolla is an excellent provider. I have been seeing him for the past 2 years, and I have always had very positive experiences with him. This last appointment, we reached a milestone (in healing) 2 years post surgery, and I expressed to him how hard everything was for me, but how grateful I was for his excellent skills and his tremendous "bedside manner". He sat down, listened to every word I said, and then reinforced the milestone and told me that I didn't have to worry any more. I would recommend him to anyone - he is outstanding!

Dr Gurrola is amazing! He was the 1st ENT who actually addressed my problem right away! (After seeing him for the 1st, I had my surgery within a few weeks and on to recovery! His bright personality spills with confidence and his work shows it! He is courteous, easygoing, and straightforward. Recommending him to everyone!
