About me

Dr. Lionel Metz is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in spine surgery, caring for both children and adults. He is skilled in using minimally invasive techniques to treat spinal disorders.

Metz has extensive experience in surgeries for the neck, or cervical spine; for spinal deformities, such as scoliosis and kyphosis; and for spinal stenosis, a condition in which narrowing of the spinal canal leads to pain or loss of function. He also has expertise in revision spine surgery, or procedures to correct problems stemming from previous surgery.

Metz earned his medical degree and completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at UCSF. He completed a fellowship in spine surgery at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Metz is a member of the North American Spine Society and J. Albert Key Washington University Orthopaedic Alumni Society. He is also a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and an alumni member of the UCSF Inman-Abbott Society.

I was so impressed with Dr. Metz. He understood and explained to me exactly what is happening with the Harrington rod in my back. He wants to see the CT Scan and MRI before we speak again about the next steps. I really appreciated his thoughtfulness before rushing into surgery. I feel very confident about the care Dr. Metz is giving me.

Dr Metz was fine, it just seemed that he hadn't had a chance to really look through my tests and history before coming in, and I was aware that he was rushed (and I was a bit beaten down by the 2 hour wait). I am hopeful that my next appointment with him will be more relaxed and informed. He seems thoughtful and nice.

Always a positive experience with Dr. Metz. I have been a patient of his for about 4 years. I've had previous neck surgery which was very successful. I may be looking to have back surgery & Dr. Metz is the Doctor I trust to take care of my current issue.
