Dr. Mack Roach III is a radiation oncologist and an internationally renowned expert on treating and managing prostate cancer.

Roach's research investigates new techniques for treating prostate cancer, such as 3-D conformal radiation therapy, in which the beam is matched to the tumor's shape, sparing healthy tissue, and intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), in which radioactive particles are inserted into the prostate gland, beside the cancer. He also studies such established treatments as brachytherapy. He chaired an important clinical trial comparing strategies for locally advanced prostate cancer.

Roach earned his medical degree at Stanford University School of Medicine.

A global authority on treatment planning for prostate cancer, Roach served as senior author for the American College of Radiology's guidelines on the subject. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, Radiation Therapy Oncology Group, National Cancer Institute's IMRT Working Group and American Joint Commission for Cancer Staging.

Dr Roach is quite concise and doesn't say much. So not disappointed. As this was my second visit with him in 3 years, he didn't review risks or safety measures or time of radiation except to say less than 5 days.

It wasn't a bad experience, but I kept getting the feeling that he felt annoyed by my questions, and he seemed a little arrogant in his responses. I did not get a warm and fuzzy feeling from him.

Had no issues. Very easy to talk to.

Care provider knew nothing about me. It was clear he never looked at my chart even though the appointment was made over a month ago. Showed little to no emphathy or concern.

The doctor obviously wanted to get the meeting over with as soon as possible.

Overall, extremely happy with Dr. Roach. He was well informed about my records, and he talked with me, and not at me, taking the time to respond to my questions and also displaying other medical information and articles relevant to my case.

Overall a good experience about a bad subject.

Informative and professional; made it easy to understand.

Dr. Roach is very knowledgeable and is held in high regard by people in the industry. But, I found him somewhat arrogant and was rushed for time and cut my meeting short, when I had more questions. He suggested I contact him through MyChart, if I had more questions. As I mentioned earlier, I find that method of communication inadequate.

They did not allow very much for me to get my words in edgewise - the whole discussion last about 4-5 minutes
Jul 06, 2023
Appointment seemed rushed. Primarily Dr. Roach explained his proposed treatment with scant time for indepth questions. This may be due to the second opinion aspect of the appointment.

I think I am a pretty well educated person but sometimes the doctor went too fast for me to take it all in.

Would be ideal to have Dr. Roach and his office schedule and track all items relating to my prostate cancer follow up. Currently, my general practitioner has taken this role.
