Dr. Sandhya Bondada Kumar is a surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive and robotic procedures as well as surgeries of the foregut (esophagus, stomach and upper small intestine).

Kumar's research focuses on improving access to surgical care for vulnerable patients, such as those in socioeconomically disadvantaged populations.

Kumar earned her medical degree at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. She completed general surgery residencies at the University of California, Los Angeles and UCSF, where she also served as chief resident. She completed a fellowship in gastrointestinal minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at UCSF.

Kumar also cares for patients at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.
