About me

Dr. Stephanie Wong is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist who cares for athletes of all ages with hip, knee or shoulder injuries. Her expertise in hip conditions includes labral tears (damage to the ring of cartilage that lines the hip joint socket) and femoroacetabular impingement (extra bone formation at the hip joint which causes pain with hip motion) as well as injuries to the nearby hamstring and gluteal tendons. She specializes in advanced arthroscopy for hip preservation (a minimally invasive procedure in which slender instruments, including a tiny camera, are passed through very small incisions). Wong treats knee ligament injuries, such as the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), and damage to the meniscus (one of two cartilage discs that cushion and stabilize each knee). In the shoulder, she treats a variety of conditions including rotator cuff tears, biceps injuries, and shoulder instability.

Wong has published numerous articles on her research, including studies on ACL injuries, rotator cuff tears, and outcomes for patients who have shoulder replacement surgery. She is also interested in studying the use of patient-reported outcomes to guide decision making on surgery.

Wong earned her medical degree at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine, graduating with election to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at UCSF, where she received an award for going above and beyond to create wonderful experiences and excellent care for patients and their families. She also completed a fellowship in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush University Medical Center.

One of Wong's passions is inspiring young women to pursue careers in orthopedic surgery. She also has served as team doctor for high school football teams in the Bay Area and Chicago, and as an assistant team doctor for the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bulls and Chicago Steel.

Fluent in conversational Cantonese, Wong grew up in San Ramon and Danville, California. She enjoys skiing and exploring national parks.
