About me

Dr. Elizabeth C. Wick is a surgeon who specializes in caring for patients with conditions of the colon, rectum and anus, such as colon, rectal and anal cancer; inflammatory bowel disease (IBD); diverticular disease (in which small pouches that have formed in the colon wall push through weak spots and cause inflammation); and perianal disease (a group of conditions affecting the rectum, anus or skin around the anus). She is experienced in laparoscopic surgery (minimally invasive techniques for abdominal and pelvic procedures), which generally has fewer complications and causes less post-op pain than traditional surgery.

In her research, Wick is interested in improving surgical quality and safety for patients. The National Institutes of Health has consistently funded her studies. Most recently, she led a national collaboration, funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, that aimed to reduce surgical site infections at 250 U.S. and international hospitals.

Wick earned her medical degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. She completed a residency in surgery at UCSF, followed by a fellowship in colorectal surgery at the Cleveland Clinic.
