About me

Dr. Elly LaRoque is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist with expertise in arthroscopy (a type of minimally invasive joint surgery), rehabilitation of the knee and shoulder, and sports injuries in athletes of all ages and levels, from recreational to elite.

Among LaRoque's research interests is the study of gender differences in the patellofemoral joint (where the kneecap and thigh bone meet) before and after a minimally invasive procedure called lateral release. To better understand the patellofemoral joint, she also does research that involves performing certain tests on cadaver knees as well as using MRI for analysis.

LaRoque earned her medical degree at the University of California, Irvine. She completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at Stanford Hospital, followed by a fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopy with Stanford University Medical School and Sports Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Medicine Associates. Before joining UCSF, she practiced at Golden Gate Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery.

LaRoque serves as team physician at the Academy of Art University and for the Stuart Hall High School football team.
