About me
Dr. Faustine D. Ramirez is a primary care sports medicine doctor who cares for patients with a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. She strives to help all her patients stay active so they can continue to experience the benefits of physical activity and sports participation. She has special interests in musculoskeletal ultrasound (an imaging technique), bone health, overuse injuries, and care for female athletes.
In research, Ramirez focuses on understanding how sports specialization affects mental health and burnout, bone health and injury risk in young athletes. She also conducts research on improving musculoskeletal and sports medicine education for pediatricians.
Ramirez earned her medical degree and completed a residency in pediatrics at UCSF. She completed a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at Stanford University. In medical school, she received several honors, which included graduating from UCSF with distinction as well as election to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. During her residency, she received an award for her commitment to a career in sports medicine from the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. She was also the inaugural recipient of an award for exceptional academic achievement from the UCSF pediatric residency program.
During both her residency and fellowship training, Ramirez has provided medical coverage for many Bay Area sporting events at the high school and collegiate levels. At UCSF, she was team physician for Lowell High School and led educational workshops for student-athletes on wellness, sports performance, mental health and injury prevention. At Stanford, she has served as team physician for the varsity football, women's soccer, and men's and women's gymnastics teams, and provided comprehensive medical care for Stanford varsity student-athletes across all sports.
Ramirez was born and raised in San Francisco. As an undergraduate at the University of Washington, she was on the women's soccer team, serving as captain during her senior year. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and dog, exploring the outdoors, and staying active through strength training, running and developing her tennis skills.
