About me

Dr. Gordon L. Fung, a cardiologist, is an expert in treating heart disease. He has special interests in cardiac rehabilitation, cardiovascular pharmacology, echocardiography (ultrasound of the heart) and preventive cardiology. At UCSF Medical Center at Mount Zion, he is director of the cardiology consultation service, the cardiac noninvasive laboratory and the unit for enhanced external counterpulsation (a therapy to relieve the chest pain called angina). At the Parnassus campus, he directs the electrocardiography laboratory and is associate director of the cardiac noninvasive laboratory.

Fung's research explores advances in preventive cardiology. He also studies end-stage heart disease.

Fung earned a master of public health degree in hospital economics and administration at the University of California, Berkeley. He earned his medical degree at UCSF. He completed a residency in internal medicine and was chief resident at Highland Hospital in Oakland. He completed a cardiology fellowship at the Veterans Affairs Martinez Outpatient Clinic.

Fung has been active in the American Heart Association, including serving on its national board of directors.
