About me
Dr. Howard M. Rosenfeld is a pediatric cardiologist who cares for patients with heart disease (both acquired and present at birth) from fetal life into early adulthood. He specializes in cardiac imaging, specifically fetal cardiac imaging and intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography (acquiring images of the heart by endoscopically inserting an ultrasound probe into the esophagus). He has provided care at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland for more than 25 years and serves as co-director of the pediatric cardiology division.
In research, Rosenfeld collaborates with colleagues in UCSF's hematology and gastroenterology departments to improve care for patients with mucopolysaccharidosis (a group of genetic disorders affecting metabolism), sickle cell disease and thalassemia (a genetic disorder affecting red blood cells).
Rosenfeld earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed a residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Boston Children's Hospital, a Harvard affiliate. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
In his free time, Rosenfeld enjoys swimming in the San Francisco Bay, and he participates in the yearly Swim Across America event to raise funds and awareness for cancer research and treatment. He is a regular Burning Man participant, where he hosts foreign art projects and runs a small camp.
