About me

Dr. Ian McCoy is a nephrologist who treats all kidney disorders, including acute kidney injury (kidney damage or failure that occurs suddenly), chronic kidney disease, electrolyte abnormalities and glomerular diseases (conditions that damage glomeruli, the blood vessels in the kidneys that filter waste).

McCoy's research focuses on acute kidney injury. He is particularly interested in finding ways to help patients discontinue dialysis after acute kidney injury.

McCoy earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, followed by a fellowship in nephrology at Stanford University. He also completed a master’s degree in epidemiology and clinical research at Stanford.

McCoy is a fellow of the American Society of Nephrology. He has received awards for his patient care at the West Roxbury Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Stanford Health Care.

I'm so blessed with the Doctors I've had at UCSF. Dr. McCoy is another blessing. He is all the above questions I answered and more. I hope I stay well enough to have him as a Doctor for many more years or for whatever I have left.
