About me

Jeff McKinney is a nurse practitioner in the UCSF Liver Disease and Liver Transplant Clinic. He manages the care of general hepatology patients as well as those preparing for a liver transplant. He has a particular focus on patients with viral hepatitis C, including those with HIV.

McKinney's research focuses on the treatment of hepatitis C.

As a nurse practitioner, McKinney also has cared for patients with hepatitis B and liver cancer. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, he worked as a nurse in UCSF's liver, kidney and pancreas transplant programs.

McKinney earned an undergraduate degree in nursing from Johns Hopkins University and completed a master's degree as a family nurse practitioner, with a minor in HIV care, at the UCSF School of Nursing. He also has a master's degree in international relations and Pacific studies from the University of California, San Diego.

McKinney is a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and California Association for Nurse Practitioners.
