About me

Dr. Jessica De Leon is a neurologist who cares for patients with cognitive disorders. She has expertise in evaluating and treating symptoms in primary progressive aphasia (in which language capabilities become increasingly impaired), Alzheimer's disease and frontotemporal dementia (a group of degenerative diseases that gradually damage or shrink certain lobes of the brain).

With a five-year grant from the National Institutes of Health, De Leon is studying how bilingualism, language background and genetics affect the symptoms of neurodegenerative disorders, using primary progressive aphasia as a disease model.

After earning a bachelor's degree in neuroscience and Spanish at Johns Hopkins University, De Leon earned her medical degree at UCSF, where she also completed a residency in neurology and served as chief resident. She then completed a fellowship in behavioral neurology at UCSF.
